Sayon Keita reportedly clears visa hurdle

The reported development would put Michael Malone’s reconstructed frontcourt together before the 2026–27 season.

7′0″Frontcourt size added

International center Sayon Keita has reportedly secured his United States visa and is expected to join North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Because UNC had not issued its own announcement when this article was published, Tar Heel Nation is treating the development as reported rather than officially confirmed.

Keita’s arrival would complete a dramatically rebuilt frontcourt. Michael Malone also added 7-foot South Dakota transfer Cameron Fens, giving his first Carolina roster more size and experience than it appeared likely to have earlier in the offseason.

The timing still matters. Keita will have less time with teammates in informal preseason work than most of the roster, and his adjustment to college basketball will extend well beyond simply arriving on campus.

The larger takeaway is that Malone should have his full group available to begin formal preparation. That gives Carolina multiple options at center and reduces the pressure on any one newcomer to immediately carry the position.
